Senator Murkowski Responds To Shooting in Afghanistan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski today had the following response to the reports coming out of Afghanistan indicating a U.S. soldier shooting Afghan civilians:
“Alaskans have a close bond with our men and women in uniform – and we are all shocked and disturbed by the developing reports coming out of the Panjwai district of Kandahar Province.
“America offers the families of the victims our deepest condolences, and we stress to everyone around the globe that this is not indicative of our troops’ training, discipline or mission to build a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
“Alaskan-based soldiers make up over 10 percent of the troops in Afghanistan presently, and it is my hope that the Afghan people will see the investigation already underway as our commitment to accountability and justice.”
