Murkowski Votes to Confirm Gina Haspel for CIA Director
First Female to Lead Agency
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) today released the following statement after voting to confirm Gina Haspel as the new Director for the Central Intelligence Agency.
“With more than 30 years of experience as a leader in the CIA, well respected throughout the intelligence committee, Gina Haspel is certainly qualified to serve as the Agency’s Director, made evident through strong bipartisan support,” said Senator Murkowski. “Haspel understands, better than most, the risk that inappropriate conduct within the CIA has to America’s standing in the world. She acknowledges that the Agency’s decision to start the enhanced interrogation program following 9/11 was not consistent with American values, and that places her in a strong position to curb similar excesses in the future. I look forward to working with her in this new capacity to counter all national security encounters facing our country.”
