Murkowski Votes In Favor of Panetta to Run Pentagon
Plans to Remind Incoming Defense Secretary of Alaska’s Key Role in Global Security
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Murkowski voted in support of Leon Panetta to replace Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and oversee the Armed Forces starting July 1st, and said of her vote:
“Mr. Panetta has served at the highest levels of government as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, White House Chief of Staff and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. He possesses the high level experience and know-how the Obama administration needs to lead the Armed Services through a very difficult budget environment and get the most of the money we spend for our national security. The nearly unheard of 100-0 vote shows the support he has across the political spectrum.
“A visiting Air Force officer reminded me last week that ‘Alaska remains the strategic key to what’s going on in the world.’ I look forward to hosting Secretary Panetta for a bird’s eye view of what Alaska’s troops and strategic location offers to the global security picture.”
