Murkowski Statement on the Death of Representative Richard Foster
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, issued the following statement on the passing of Rep. Richard Foster:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of Richard Foster’s passing. Richard and I served in the Legislature together. Richard was a kind and thoughtful man who would, among other gestures, lead the birthday song for other members of the Legislature. Richard loved Alaska history and, in his spare time, he would pore through the archives, reading old newspaper accounts about life in Alaska. He would share copies of stories about my mother’s family when they lived in Nome in the 1930s. He also sent “pick-me up” postcards to members, which also brought smiles. On so many occasions during serious and tense moments of debate, Richard was the one who would make a joke and bring some levity to the room. Richard was a fierce representative of the people of Nome and rural Alaska and always looked out for their best interests.
“Richard’s passing is a real loss for the people of Nome, and for our state. He truly was one of my favorite people. He genuinely loved people and he was loved in return. I extend my sincere sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
