Murkowski Statement on President Trump’s Budget Request

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) today responded to President Trump’s budget request for Fiscal Year 2019:

“The Trump administration established his budget priorities for our nation today, which includes a call for major investments for our national defense and removal of unnecessary regulations. Those are proposals I can get behind. I’m glad to see that the administration has proposed significant resources to combat the opioid epidemic. I’m also pleased by the administration’s interest in growing the military’s strategic presence in Alaska by focusing on military construction and acknowledging our nation’s need for a new icebreaker.

“This budget request is the first step in the process through which Congress decides which programs to fund as well as the levels of funding each program should receive. Now that the President has detailed his priorities, the appropriations committees in Congress will consider those requests and continue the work to set funding levels for Fiscal Year 2019. As an appropriator, I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, the Administration, and Alaskans throughout the budget process.”

Murkowski is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Chairman of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.
