Murkowski Statement on Medicare Reimbursement Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today made the following statement after a strong bipartisan Senate majority rejected a Democrat Medicare physician reimbursement fix that would have added a quarter trillion dollars to the deficit:

“I fully support fixing the Medicare reimbursement rates for doctors, but this was an irresponsible proposal that would simply have added $250 billion to the record-high federal deficit with no plan to pay for it. Given the recent news that the federal deficit hit a record $1.4 trillion in the just-ended fiscal year, it would be reckless to add another quarter trillion dollars to the national credit card. As we deal with this issue, Congress must start acting in a fiscally responsible manner, and not simply continue to run up the national debt.”
