Murkowski Reflects on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Today Senator Lisa Murkowski shared her thoughts on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:
“Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a holiday of inspiration. As we are all “Reconnecting with the Dream,” let us remember the good that Dr. Martin Luther King Junior brought to our nation through his vision of service, community empowerment, and tireless advocacy for equality.
“This is a day where we come together to recognize and celebrate the diverse communities across our towns, our cities, and our nation. We are lucky to be able to enjoy the different cultures and backgrounds that make Alaska such a great place to live. We must continue to promote and honor the dream of tolerance and equality that Dr. King so strongly believed in. Together we can overcome our challenges and become an even better community for future generations.
“Now more than ever, as divisiveness and fear grip our nation, I encourage all Alaskans to keep Dr. King’s words in mind: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
“I am greatly honored to celebrate this historic day with you and remember a man who continually fought for the rights and opportunities we enjoy today.”
