Murkowski Opposes Latest Democratic Spending Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today voted against the latest $26.1 billion Democratic spending measure that cleared the Senate 61-to-39.
“To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, here they go again. The Democrats continue to embrace huge spending bills at a time of record high federal deficits. The measure approved today by the Senate would extend last year’s trillion-dollar failed stimulus bill by $26.1 billion for teacher salaries and Medicaid spending. What happened to Democrat promises that the original stimulus would be timely, targeted and temporary? Further extending the failed policies of last year’s stimulus bill, by transferring more federal dollars to the states, does nothing to get the economy back on track. Actually, this bill does a disservice to states because it only postpones the day of reckoning, the day that state governments will have to make the tough budget and fiscal decisions.”
