Murkowski Honors Fallen Soldiers with Memorial Day Message

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) released the following message in observance of Memorial Day:

“On Memorial Day, I join with Alaskans as we reflect with somber hearts on the American servicemembers who have given their lives to protect the country we love and the freedoms we cherish.

“It was General George Patton who stated that ‘It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God such men lived.’ Those words are as true today as ever, as war and tyranny across the world remind us that these courageous individuals are the reason our republic still stands.

“For most Alaskans, this long weekend is spent with family and friends as we begin our summer. However you choose to spend it, I hope you will pause to remember the real meaning and history of Memorial Day - to honor those who have given their lives in the service of our nation. We will never be able to fully repay them but we will always hold them and their loved ones in our hearts.

“Together, as a grateful nation, we remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and give thanks that they believed so deeply in our nation’s values that they were willing to give all in the line of duty on our behalf.”
