Murkowski Conducting Flood Survey of Mat-Su, Kenai Peninsula and Seward Areas
Senator Teaming with Alaska Disaster Official to Pursue Information
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski is traveling to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Kenai Peninsula and Seward this week with Alaska Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Director John Madden to review the state and local response actions in the wake of last week’s dramatic floods and windstorms in southcentral Alaska.
“In these two damaged areas, people are slowly shifting from ‘what do we do’ to ‘what happens next,’ said Murkowski. “I want to work with Director Madden to see the damaged areas and how the state’s response is being performed.”
Senator Murkowski will be briefed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson by Madden this afternoon, followed by a trip to Butte – where properties and roads have been damaged. On Thursday, the two will travel to Seward to see what progress is being made there, as well as the level of damage done to the Alaska Railroad at the terminus.
