“Hi this is Lisa Murkowski. I am proudly wearing red today to celebrate the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Day. Today marks ten passionate years of “Going Red”, and I’m honored to participate in this continued fight against cardiovascular disease.”

“Heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases together are the number one killer in the United States. It fact, heart disease will kill more women this year than all cancers combined. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Many cardiovascular diseases can be effectively treated and often times prevented.”

“Over the last decade, Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association has been raising awareness and making incredible advancements in the fight against heart disease. Today 23 percent more women know that heart disease is the number one health risk that they face, and 21 percent fewer women are dying from heart disease.”

“While there has been great progress in learning about this disease, and how it affects women, I believe that we must enable our women, our families, and our health care providers to confront cardiovascular disease head on.  Heart disease no longer needs to be the nation’s leading cause of death.”

“Your efforts, your support, and advocacy are crucial in enabling Alaskan communities to be more heart healthy.  I hope you’ll join me to support this very important cause, not only on this Friday by wearing red, but into the future as we continue our efforts to battle this devastating disease. Thank you so much for your advocacy.”
