Murkowski Announces Secretary Salazar, Senator Reed Alaska Visit
Statewide Trip in August will Showcase Alaska Projects and Potential
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Murkowski today announced that she has invited Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Chairman of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee to Alaska for an August visit – making the following statement:
“Sometimes when Alaskan issues are discussed on Capitol Hill, things get lost in translation because policymakers simply don’t know enough about our state.
“It’s important that national leaders fully understand Alaska’s potential – and that’s why I have invited Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Senator Jack Reed, chairman of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, to Alaska in a few weeks to show them the work being done to increase domestic energy production on the North Slope and adjacent waters. We will also be examining the new Native hospital in Barrow, visiting the BLM firefighting facilities in Fairbanks, discussing public access issues and employment opportunities at Denali National Park, and also meeting with local community leaders.
“I look forward to showing Secretary Salazar and Senator Reed everything Alaska has to offer our country – and also our state’s unique needs.”
