Murkowski Announces over $6.2 Million in Army Corp Funding for Alaska Projects
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski R-AK commends the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on their recently released work plan for Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) which allocates over $6.2 million for projects in Alaska.
Total FY22 allocations in Alaska include:
- ATKA NAVIGATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS – $507,000
- AKUTAN HARBOR NAVIGATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS – $350,000
- CRAIG HARBOR – $406,000
- ELIM SUBSISTENCE HARBOR – $2,000,000
- LOWELL CREEK (TUNNEL) FLOOD DIVERSION – $3,000,000
“The Army Corps of Engineers has provided pivotal support for Alaska for years – even before we officially became a state. Their announcement today builds on their years of service, directing much-needed funding to a number of projects across the state. With investments from the Infrastructure Law directed to the Army Corps, we were able to clear a backlog of projects that had been in the queue for over a decade. Now with those projects finally cleared, many other priorities are making headway with the Army Corps work plan. As a result, Craig Harbor will finally be able to complete their preconstruction, engineering, and design phase. Atka, Akutan, and Elim Subsistance Harbors will receive a much needed boost to either continue or complete their investigations to propel these local projects forward. And, additional funding for the Lowell Creek diversion tunnel will take us one step closer to ensuring a flood-free future for Seward. I look forward to continuing to advocate for Civil Works projects such as these to ensure the additional outstanding needs of Alaskans are met,” said Senator Murkowski. “I appreciate the Army Corps of Engineers acknowledging the significant needs in these communities through this announcement and look forward to seeing these projects ready for construction funding in the near future.”
