Murkowski Announces First Session Summer Interns
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today announced the names of her first session summer interns who will work in the Senator's Washington, D.C., office next month. These young Alaskans will observe both the operations of a fast-paced Senate office and the legislative process from an up-close view.
For the first summer session, running June 1-July 2, 2010, Murkowski has selected as interns Virginia Angaiak of Tununak; Thomas Comellas, Anchorage; Eva Cress, Anchorage; Alexander Deedy, Wasilla; Ahmad Nasir, Anchorage; Laura Solie, Fairbanks; Mariah Shones, Palmer; Shannon Stough, Palmer; Terranova Tasker, Anchorage and Kelsey Wallace, Bethel.
"These young Alaskans arrive in Washington with energy and enthusiasm as they witness the work of the Senate first hand," Murkowski said. "I enjoy having interns in my office and my staff and I greatly appreciate their contributions. So many professionals in public service today, including myself, can trace their careers back to their internships."
Sen. Murkowski also welcomed two Alaska college students to serve as this summer's intern coordinators. Lydia Link of Kenai and Matthew Shuckerow of Anchorage will supervise and counsel summer interns in partnership with members of Murkowski's staff. Link is a graduate of Willamette University currently pursuing her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Willamette and Shuckerow is a senior at the University of Nevada studying public relations and business.
Murkowski's summer interns are recent high school graduates who assist in the day-to-day clerical and administrative tasks within the office such as directing mail, interacting with visiting Alaskans and assisting staff with policy-related research projects. Each day, two interns "shadow" Sen. Murkowski in her daily work around the Capitol in order to obtain a first-hand view of the Senator at work.
