Alaska Delegation Announces Grants to Alaska Programs

Washington, D.C. - The Alaska Congressional Delegation is pleased to announce the following grants awarded to communities in the State of Alaska:

Minerals Management Service:

• $2,150,000 to the Alaska Monitoring and Assessment Program, to conduct an environmental monitoring and assessment program survey of the condition of the Chukchi Sea coastal region. Funding provided through the Coastal Impact Assistance Program.

U.S. Department of Energy:

The following grants were awarded through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. Activities eligible for funds include energy audits, building retrofits, development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency. Funds are provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

• $73,700 to Chugach Alaska Corporation.
• $46,800 to Native Village of Saint Michael.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:

• $5,518,121 to the State of Alaska Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), to help eligible families pay the costs of heating and insulating their homes in the winter. Applications for LIHEAP funding are available through the HHS website.

U.S. Department of Transportation:

• $1,900,000 to the State of Alaska, for helping improve safety, legal access, maintenance, and construction of transportation and recreational trails statewide.

• $950,000 to Fairbanks North Star Borough, for upgrades to Cripple Creek Road to provide improved access and safety for an area of the Becker Ridge Service Area.
