Delegation Announces Grants to Alaska Programs

Washington, D.C. - The Alaska Congressional Delegation is pleased to announce the following grants awarded to communities in the State of Alaska:

-          $430,300 to the State of Alaska for training of Remote Maintenance Workers. Rural Development funds will be used to provide on-site and classroom training for water and waste disposal operators.

-          $973,886 to the Copper River Watershed Project of Cordova for Eyak Lake. The Eyak Lake restoration project will restore Eyak Lake salmon spawning, rearing and wintering habitat. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

 

-          $992,062 to the Nature Conservancy of Arlington, Virginia, for the Klawock River Salmon passage and Habitat Restoration project. The project will create culverts to help restore estuarine hydrology to the Klawock River system. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

 

-          $1,575,996 to the Kenai Watershed Forum of Soldotna. The Kenai Watershed Forum will restore salmon habitats within Daves Creek.

 

-          $1,012,640 to the Marine Conservation Alliance Foundation of Juneau for an Alaska-wide coastline Marine Debris removal. A large derelict vessel removal will also be implemented. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

-          $400,000 to the North Slope Borough (Atqasuk and Point Lay) to conduct a runway end survey to evaluate existing obstructions in support of implementation of a localizer approach with vertical guidance (LPV) at Atqasuk Airport and Point Lay Airport.

 

-          $400,000 to State of Alaska DOT (Anvik and Kotlik) to conduct a runway end survey to evaluate existing obstructions in support of implementation of a localizer approach with vertical guidance (LPV) at Anvik Airport and Kotlik Airport.

 

-          $13,000,000 to the Petersburg James A Johnson Airport to construct runway safety area.

 

-          $2,500,000 to the State of Alaska for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands that have suffered serious damage from flooding that began April 28, 2009. Funds will be going to Crooked Creek, Red Devil, Sleetmute, Aniak, Napaimiut, Salcha, North Pole, Kobuk, Chalkyitsik, Chistochina, and most severely in Eagle.

 

-          $1,152,605 to the State of Alaska for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands that have suffered serious damage from a storm that struck Southcentral Alaska from August 18 – 24, 2006. Flooding and damage occurred in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough; the City of Cordova; the Copper River highway area in the Chugach Rural Education Attendance Area (REAA); the Richardson Highway area in the Copper River REAA and Delta/Greely REAA; the Denali Highway area; and Parks Highway area in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the Denali Borough.

 

-          $2,477,025 to the State of Alaska for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands that have suffered serious damage from severe flooding and high water during 2005’s spring breakup of ice in the Village of Emmonak.

 

-          $9,083,890 to the State of Alaska for transit improvements. Transit improvements across the state, including 16 expansion vans, three replacement vans, six 30 foot expansion buses, twelve 30 foot replacement buses, two 40 foot expansion buses, bus stops and construction of a park-and-ride lots and bus shelters. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

 

-          $776,469 to Anchorage Alaska to prevent homelessness through the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP). The program offers a variety of short- and medium-term financial assistance to those who would otherwise become homeless, many due to sudden economic crisis. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
