Delegation Announces Grants and Contracts to Alaska Programs
Washington, D.C. - The Alaska Congressional Delegation is pleased to announce the following grants and contracts awarded to communities in the State of Alaska:
U.S. Department of Transportation:
· $2,141,950 to the City of Kenai in order to rehabilitate the aircraft aprons for the Kenai Municipal Airport, Kenai, Alaska.
· $21,000,000 to the State of Alaska/Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in order to construct the new airport in the community of Takotna, Alaska.
· $11,000,000 to the State of Alaska/Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in order to construct a runway safety area for the Petersburg James A. Johnson Airport, Petersburg, Alaska.
· $1,000,000 to the State of Alaska/Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in order to acquire safety equipment and/or fencing [install perimeter fencing] for the King Cove Airport, King Cove, Alaska.
· $6,250,000 to the State of Alaska/Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in order to construct a snow removal equipment building (SREB) at the Unalakleet Airport, Unalakleet, Alaska.
· $ 3,199,000 to Alaska University Transportation Center, Fairbanks, Alaska.
· $ 25,825,268 to Alaska Railroad Corporation in order to provide funds for track rehabilitation; construction of restroom facilities in Seward and Talkeetna; power upgrades at the Seward Depot; purchase and installation of automated passenger equipment safety devices; construction of second set of tracks at the Fairbanks Intermodal Facility; Nenana rail realignment; and engineering, construction, and safety fencing at the Ship Creek Intermodal Facility.
U.S. Department of Education:
· $299,479 to Yukon Flats School District in order to provide students with increased access to up-to-date school library materials, a well-equipped technologically advanced school library media center, and well-trained, professionally certified school library media specialists to improve literacy skills and achievement of students.
· $260,289 to Cook Inlet Tribal Council Inc. in order to provide financial assistance to projects to develop, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of services and programs to improve the educational opportunities of preschool, elementary and secondary Indian students to meet the purposes of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
· $174,726 to Adult Learning Programs of Alaska – Administration in order to promote education equity for women and girls through competitive grants. The program designates most of its funding for local implementation of gender-equity policies and practices. Research, development, and dissemination activities also may be funded. Projects may be funded for up to four years.
· $276,220 to Goldbelt Heritage Foundation in order to provide financial assistance to projects to develop, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of services and programs to improve the educational opportunities of preschool, elementary and secondary Indian students to meet the purposes of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
· $453,404 to Kuspuk School District in order to provide students with increased access to up-to-date school library materials, a well-equipped technologically advanced school library media center, and well-trained, professionally certified school library media specialists to improve literacy skills and achievement of students.
· $291,293 to Bering Strait School District in order to provide financial assistance to projects to develop, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of services and programs to improve the educational opportunities of preschool, elementary and secondary Indian students to meet the purposes of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
U.S. Department of Defense:
· $37,102,826 to Blue Scope Construction, Inc. in order to build two aircraft weather shelter hangars at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
· $5,702,672 to CH2M Constructors, Inc. in order to renovate Alaska Command Headquarters at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
· $63,950,443.51 to Municipality of Anchorage in order to provide firm electric energy service at Ford Richardson, Alaska.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development:
· $351,510 to Asa’carsarmiut Tribe in order to provide assistance in development of affordable housing.
· $191,074 to Louden Tribal Council in order to provide assistance in development of affordable housing.
U.S. Department of Commerce:
· $35,349 to Alaska MEP, Inc.
U.S. Department of the Interior:
· $110,716 to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Government in Alaska for a project that will restore the riverbank and provide habitat protection within the Crooked Creek State Recreation Area.
· $62,028 to the National Park Service, Alaska Office in order to conduct a survey concerning the World War II battlefield of Kiska, Alaska.
National Endowment for the Arts:
· $8,000 to Sheldon Museum & Cultural Center Inc.
Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS):
· $44,247 to Alaska Department of Education and Early Development
