Murkowski on Steel and Aluminum Tariff Announcement

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) made the following statement after the Trump administration lifted steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico:

“I’m pleased to see the administration take the necessary step of lifting steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico. I had previously expressed concerns about the impact these tariffs would have on our nation’s economy, trade relationships, and particularly on our nation’s energy sector. In Alaska, steel and aluminum tariffs have the potential to impact everything from driving up the cost of materials needed for a natural gas pipeline to significant military construction projects. Not only does this exemption put us on a better footing with our allies and significant trade partners, but could also spell progress towards ratification of the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.”
