Murkowski Calls for Review of Federal Energy Efficiency Authorities, Programs
Murkowski Testifies on Energy Efficiency before House Subcommittee
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski took her energy agenda to the other side of Capitol Hill this morning and testified before a House of Representatives Subcommittee, sharing her views on the federal government’s potential role in advancing energy efficiency – a key policy component featured in her Energy 20/20 blueprint she unveiled earlier this month – while also seeking efficiencies within the Department of Energy.
Murkowski stressed that as Congress seeks to put the nation on a fiscally-responsible path, the Government Accounting Office should see if the Energy Department’s efficiency programs are running as smoothly and productively as possible, calling for a review of overlapping authorities or duplicative programs that can be combined or eliminated to improve the efficient operation of the government.

“Given the constraints on federal finances and the failure of mandates to deliver the promised results, those of us in the federal government should also put our own house in order,” Murkowski said Tuesday. “As a start, I will soon be calling upon the Government Accountability Office to review current funding and past performance of residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs at DOE – and then propose new authorization levels based on this review.”
As the top Republican on the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Murkowski was invited to add her expertise and insight to a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power hearing on “American Energy Security and Innovation: An Assessment of Private-Sector Successes and Opportunities in Energy Efficient Technologies.”
