Your Alaska Link: Governor Dunleavy, Senator Murkowski Survey Juneau Flood Aftermath, Pledge Support
Governor Mike Dunleavy and Senator Lisa Murkowski joined local leaders in Juneau to survey the aftermath of this week's outburst flood.
The Governor notes that hundreds of Alaskans are hurting right now, calling the damage he saw "significant."
"I'm grateful that there were no deaths or severe injuries reported, and I want to recognize the local, state, and federal officials along with several non-profits that have stepped up to the plate to support those Alaskans affected by this flooding event," Dunleavy said on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Senator Murkowski says she is working with the rest of the Alaska delegation to secure federal funding to help with the recovery here and make sure the people of Juneau get back on their feet stronger than ever.
"There continues to be a lot of work to do – many Juneauites will need temporary and long-term shelter, there is a huge financial need to help families and businesses, and fiscal support will be required to aid in clean-up efforts. But we also saw a community coming together in a crisis. Friends and neighbors were helping clean up debris, offering those who were displaced a warm place to stay and home-cooked meals. We will do everything we can to get those affected back on their feet, but the people in Juneau are resilient and I know they will come back stronger than ever."
