KINY: Murkowski hails signing of Violence against Women Act
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska Senior United States Senator Lisa Murkowski celebrated at the White House Wednesday when President Biden signed her Violence Against Women Act into law.
The senator says she's very proud of what they were able to do with the reauthorization of the act and what it means to ensure that women and children feel safe in their communities and in their homes and to reduce the levels of domestic violence in Alaska.
She points out that Alaska's statistics are some of the worst in the country.
In addition, Murkowski said provisions in the Omnibus Budget signed earlier this week offer protection to the vulnerable and the homeless. She specifically mentioned Juneau's Teal Street Center project and what Ketchikan hopes to do with its services to the homeless.
